3 Dentist-Approved Snacks

Healthy Smiles Healthy Snacks Atlanta DentistMany of us have been spending a lot of time at home due to the COVID-19 crisis. With very little to do these days, snacking has become a favorite pastime. Some of our patients have asked us if we have any snack suggestions that are smile-friendly. As your trusted dentist in Atlanta, GA, we’ve put together our top 3 dentist-approved snacks that we think our patients will enjoy. Here are our suggestions:

Cheese

Cheese snacks are some of the best snacks you can buy for your teeth. Cubed cheese, sliced cheese, string cheese… you name it, and we would probably recommend it. Not only is cheese soft and easy to chew for our patients who suffer from jaw pain but it is also full of proteins and calcium which are essential to good oral health. Additionally, cheese helps balance the pH of your mouth and neutralizes any harmful acids left behind on your tooth surfaces from a previous meal. This is our first snack that is dentist-approved and smile-friendly.

Fruit Smoothies

Our second snack that is dentist-approved and smile-friendly is fruit smoothies. If you’ve never made a fruit smoothie before, now is a great time to try. Any of your favorite fruits or vegetables can go into a smoothie, but we recommend kiwi and strawberries. Strawberries are high in Vitamin C, which is essential to help your body fight off infections like gum disease. Kiwi is packed with calcium, which helps keep your teeth strong. Mix together a fruit smoothie for yourself if you’re in the mood for a snack. Not only is it tasty and filling but it is also easy on your oral health.

Carrots or Celery Sticks

Our last snack suggestion is carrots or celery sticks. All vegetables are great for your health overall, but these two are both great suggestions for people looking for something to munch on throughout the day. Try keeping a plate of carrots or celery sticks near you as you work or watch television. As you reach for them, you can feel confident in knowing that this snack is smile-friendly. They both contain essential vitamins and minerals that will help your teeth remain strong. Additionally, as your chew on these crunchy snacks, they will stimulate saliva production which keeps your mouth moist and ready to fight away bacteria.
